The Ministry of Interior Tuesday released the names and photos of 35 suspects accused of being the masterminds of terror in Lamu county and Boni Forest.
In a statement issued by Interior CS Kithure Kindiki, the security and intelligence agencies appealed to the public to provide information that could lead to arrests of the suspects.
Prof Kindiki said the 35 suspected terrorists have been linked to the placement of improvised explosive devices on dirt roads and the killing of civilians along the Lamu-Witu-Garsen highway.
The suspects are also believed to be responsible for the murders of civilians in Lango la Simba, Witu, Mpeketoni, Juhudi, Salama and Hindi. They are further linked to the attack on the American Military Base at Manda Bay on January 5, 2020.
“The suspects, whose photographs will be distributed in mainstream print media and posted on the official online platforms of the Interior Ministry and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations today (Tuesday), are instructed to surrender themselves to any police station within the country without delay,” said Kindiki.
The list includes several names, among them two Tanzanians, a German, United Kingdom nationals, and Bangladeshi individuals, with the majority being Kenyans.
The suspects are Maalim Ayman, Ramadhan Kioko, Abdullahi Banati, also known as Musdaf–Mzee Simba, Andreas Martin Muller, Abu Amar from Mombasa, Suleiman Maktum Yusuf, Tanzanian, Abdiweli Yassin Isse, Abrahim Magag, and Jilib-Lamu-Orma.
Others include Jilib-Lamu, Fahad, Garreh, Sheikh Nganglangalam, Janagale Huteiba, Bashir, Abu Khatal, Maalik Alim Jone, Abu Said, Abu Anan, Mzee Mashella, Warsame Ali, Mohamed Mwanjama Salim, Maalim Said Guyo, and Zakaria Karongo.
Abdullahi Dere, a driver, lost his right leg during the Baure KDF Camp attack, while Ramadhan Mwangi Muchiri was a driver for J.A. Arqawi, Yunus was a weapons repairer and armourer injured in the Sarira airstrike in 2017, and Yakub was a driver.
