A man charged with threatening to kill his mother has pleaded not guilty.

Moses Njue also denied being in possession of narcotics and was released on a bond of Sh10,000 and a surety of a similar amount, or a cash bail of Sh5,000.

Appearing before Senior Principal Magistrate Henry Nyakweba, Njue denied committing the offence on October 29, 2021, at Gaikure in Embu North sub-County.

According to the police, on October 30, 2021, at around 8.44pm in Gaikure village, Njue was found in possession of 40 grammes of bhang with a street value of Sh500 contrary to the law.

Prosecutor Diana Irungu requested a pre-trial date in a month's time to enable them collect more evidence.

"The exhibit has to be taken to the Government Chemist to ascertain that it is bhang. However, I have supplied a copy of the charge sheet and a statement from the complainant to him," she said.

The accused told the magistrate that it was a family issue that had degenerated into "politics".

"Familia yenu imekua bunge (Has your family become Parliament?" the magistrate posed.

The case will be heard on December 6, 2021.
