Police in Nyeri County are investigating circumstances in which two brothers who had been reported missing for weeks were killed and their bodies dumped in Sagana river.

The bodies of the two boys- Delyan Harrison Wachira and Kian Georgson Wachira- were discovered on Sunday evening, days after distressed calls over their disappearance.

Bodies of the two brothers, aged three and a half and two years, were found floating on River Sagana, Mathira West, Nyeri County.

Acting CCIO John Gacheru confirmed the incident. "The bodies were found by a fisherman and notified police. The boys were last seen on November 1 at Marua," said the officer.

There have been frantic efforts by relatives and neighbours in search for the boys who were last seen at the beginning of November. The incident was reported at Nyeri Police station.

Notices had been placed all over Nyeri town and its environs, and online campaign was also launched to trace the boys.

Police are treating the sons’ mother Eva Wangui,29, as the prime suspect after she reportedly left her home in Thunguma with her children.

She reportedly alighted at Marua only for the bodies of her two sons to be retrieved from the river.

“The mother is admitted in the psychiatry ward at Nyeri Referral Hospital. We will interrogate her once she's done with treatment,” said Gacheru.

The bodies were positively identified by the grandfather at Karatina mortuary where an autopsy will be conducted.

"Investigations are going on and to establish circumstances under which the children were killed," said Gacheru.
