Woman who survived husband’s brutal attack speaks

The 23-year-old woman who was sexually assaulted by her husband in Tharaka South, Tharaka Nithi, has said she will stay away from him.

The man, identified as James Kifo (pictured), is said to have returned home after a long sojourn in Nairobi and attacked his wife by first inserting pepper, salt and onions in her private parts using a sharp knife, before applying superglue mixed with sand to ‘seal’ it up.

Speaking to The Standard today, the woman said she is back with her son to Njabini in Nyandarua.

She said she wants the police to arrest Kifo and apply the rule of law.

Kifo subjected her to much pain many times and she wants justice, she added.

"I wanted to leave but he always threatened me. I met him at Marimanti and married him in 2016," said the woman.

She has a three-year-old son with Kifo, who is being looked for by the police.

The woman appealed for help to offset medical bills, saying her mother washes other people's laundry and her father is elderly. They are not in a position to help.

"My mother has no job and she is really struggling to take care of the family."

She met the man at Marimanti when she visited her relative, but says she regrets marrying him.

The woman is still in pain, saying she does not understand why her husband would be so cruel.

"I never want to go back to him because of the pain he has caused me and my son. I never thought the cruelty could go this far," she lamented.

Tharaka South Sub County Police Commander Kiprop Ruto and his officers are working to ensure Kifo is arrested soon.
