Kirinyaga man strangles wife to death after arguing over food

Police in Kirinyaga are holding a 47-year-old man for allegedly killing his wife in Mwea-West Sub-County.

Wanjohi Kagai is reported to have lost his head after he arrived home only to realise that his wife had not left him supper.

A drunken Kagai reportedly became 'verbally abusive' before descending on his wife Virginia Wambui with kicks and blows.

After overpowering her, Kagai allegedly used a piece of cloth to strangle Wambui to death.

The suspect was arrested after his daughter reported to a local administrator who called in the police.

The incident took place a few minutes past midnight.

Mwea-West police boss Stephen Wenda said the deceased had throttling marks which pointed to a struggle.

“The deceased had bruises on the leg and hands and it seems she was strangled,” said Wenda.

The suspect is currently being held at Sagana Police Station.

Kagai reportedly confessed to neighbours that he had killed his wife after they argued over food.

“He told us they had an argument with the wife after he arrived home and found there was no food,” one of the neighbours said.
