Murang’a, Kenya: Shock gripped Mukuyu market in Murang’a County after a business woman was abducted by a gang posing as police officers.

The trader, Ms Leah Ndung’u, who operates a business at the crime prone market, was abducted from her home near Kiangage.

Her children immediately alerted their father of the 8.50 pm incident.

The gang then sped off using a getaway vehicle during the Friday night incident.

The husband informed the police who responded by tracking down the vehicle, which was intercepted at Ndikwe market along Mukuyu-Kahuro road.

The female trader, who was in shock, was found handcuffed and bundled in the vehicle as police arrested four suspects aged between 20 and 28 years.

Murang’a Administration Police Commandant Josphat Kinyua said combined efforts of various police units which were in patrol near the market managed to trace the vehicle and rescued the woman.

“Immediately the victim’s husband alerted the police, security officers within Murang’a town were mobilised and a manhunt for the gang was launched,” said Kinyua.

He said the gang was using a vehicle with registration number KBQ 127E and police are tracking down the owner so as to help with investigations.

A police jungle uniform, a panga and an axe were recovered from the vehicle.
