Bill targets more county revenue

Kiambu, Kenya: The clergy in Kiambu County will be coughing Sh5, 000 per day to hold crusades and other religious meeting on open air grounds if a proposed Bill is adopted.

The Appropriation Financial Bill 2013, as submitted by the executive committee member for finance and planning, has been uploaded in the county’s website for public reading and scrutiny.

According to Mukami Kamau, the communication director in the office of the governor, the public is welcome to make their views before it is approved.

The Bill explains how the county government expects to collect revenue to supplement its Sh13 million budget.

Alcoholic Drinks

Any wholesale distributor of at least one million litres of alcoholic drinks per year manufactured in another county will pay one million shillings to acquire an operating license.

Getting a burial place for an adult will cost Sh4,500, children Sh3,000 and infants Sh2,500 while burial certificates will cost Sh8,000 for citizens dying within the county, Sh10,000 for those dying outside the county and Sh25,000 for non-citizens.

A couple planning to wed or hold other entertainment events will pay Sh12, 000 to hire a town or social hall per day and the same applies to those hiring for commercial use.

Mega private higher education institutions with over 200 students will pay Sh30,000 to Sh70,000, while large private health facilities, hospitals, clinic and nursing homes providing over 30 beds will fork out between Sh30,000 and Sh50,000.
