AP’s lucky gun attack escape

Murang’a, Kenya: A senior Administration Police officer in Murang’a County escaped death narrowly, after his junior sprayed his house with bullets.

The corporal, attached to Gitige AP camp in Kahuro District allegedly went berserk after drinking beer at a nearby bar.

The suspect was reportedly given a loaded rifle during his patrol.

But his colleagues claimed he kept the rifle in his house. They said he then collected it later and went to his senior’s house.

Witnesses say the AP knocked at his senior’s door as he hid the gun on his back, while warning him to await his death. He then pulled the trigger, but the would-be victim ducked.

The rogue AP officer then went into hiding immediately, as his colleagues combed the region fearing that he could turn his anger on the public.

Alarmed, senior AP officers from Kahuro district headquarters rushed to the security camp, where they found their colleague hiding in the kitchen.

Deserted duty

The rogue officer resurfaced at 5am, when he surrendered himself at Kahuro Police Station. He also returned the gun, which was loaded with 14 rounds of ammunition.

Kahuro district AP commandant Mr Francis Gachoki said the matter has been taken over by District Criminal Investigations Office.

“After the officer went missing, his colleagues made efforts to trace him without success,” said Gachoki.

The AP officer was held in police custody before he was taken for grilling by CID officers in Murang’a town.

It has also emerged that the officer, who was recruited into the force in 2007 has on various occasions deserted duty.
