Man arrested for impersonation

Police officers in Nakuru have arrested a man for allegedly posing as a police officer and raping a woman.

Washington Cheruiyot who had a General Service Unit badge indicating he works in Ruaraka, Nairobi, was found hiding in a Nakuru estate.

The suspect, who is known to the family of the minor, informed her parents that he was going to secure for her a job as an administration police officer in the recently concluded police recruitment.

The parents of the girl offered him an undisclosed amount of money as a bribe, allowing the girl to travel to Nakuru only to learn later she had been sexually harassed.

Nakuru Police Boss Bernard Kioko said the parents and the minor reported the incident to the police after realising those who were selected to join the police service reported on January 12, yet they had not received any communication from Cheruiyot. The suspect will be arraigned in court.
