Ex-guard testifies against MP

A furious MP said he would “do away with” an election petitioner after failing to withdraw the case as agreed, a Nyeri court was told.

A former bodyguard of Gatundu North MP Clement Waibara John Kabecha yesterday told Nyeri Senior Principal Magistrate the MP was angry when a deal he had stuck with petitioner Bernard Mburu failed, even after parting with an unspecified amount of money.

Kabecha said he accompanied the MP to various meetings with the petitioner in which a deal was struck to withdraw the petition subject to the MP catering for the cost of the case.

But Kabecha said Mburu started dithering after the two had sealed the deal.

“After one meeting at the Blue Post Hotel in Thika, the MP was furious with Mburu after he found out the case was progressing and dates had been set by High Court in Nairobi.

Mburu left without giving a firm undertaking. The MP later told me he was angry and could even do away with him,” said the police officer.

Kabecha was testifying in a case in which the MP has denied conspiring with others to murder Mburu.
Hearing continues on August 13 and 14.
