Murang'a tea farmers get record payment

Farmers affiliated to ten tea factories in Murang’a County will receive more than Sh6 billion in annual bonus payments this year, in accordance to rates set by Kenya Tea Development Agency, factoring their production and cost of processing tea.

Chege Kirundi and Mwangi Kirigwi, two KTDA board members, said the payment has set a new record, owing to increased production and better overseas markets. "Many of the factories have embarked on new technologies to reduce the cost of production as well as educating farmers on the best farming methods and practices that has helped increase production," said Kirundi when he spoke to The Standard.
