VIHIGA, KENYA: The Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) Vihiga Chapter has elected new leaders into office, for a term of three years.

Billy Nyonje is the chapter’s new chairperson; replacing Rodgers Mulemi who has held the position for five years and who now seeks a national position to represent the Western region.

Dr. Nyonje said he would work to take care of business community interests while thanking his predecessor for having taken the association to greater heights.

“The outgoing chairperson has worked hard to unite the business community. In many regions of the country, many chapters have been engaged in fights but Vihiga has been quiet and working,” Nyonje said.

He added, “The new office will work for hand in hand with the county and national government to increase sustainability and realise greater goals for the business community.”

Other members who have been elected included Boaz Indeche (vice chair), Margaret Amimo (women representative), Francis Livumbatsi (youth representative), and Wycliffe Matimu (person with disabilities).

Directors Joel Enane, Jacqueline Nyangweso, Bruce Madete, Amena Amendi, Carolyne Andahi, and Pamella Amunga also took office.

Members of the KNCCI electoral body Job Kariuki and Vincent Mbogholi from the national office, at Mbale over saw the process.

Nyonje said one of their immediate tasks was to engage the county government on how to increase revenue collection by creating business-friendly policies.

“We also want to embark on recruiting more members, targeting over 1000 businesses this year alone, while ensuring those who are already members are renewing their licenses,” he said.
