Beauticians wanted to run new Nakumatt shops

By Macharia Kamau

Local retailer Nakumatt Holdings is recruiting beauty consultants for its cosmetics division.

The company is rolling out cosmetics bars in its retail outlets and plans to have a beauty shops in all its outlets.

The cosmetic bars will be selling beauty products and will be manned by professional beauty advisors who  will help shoppers in selecting products that fit their needs.

Each cosmetic bar will have 10 attendants, translating to 380 new jobs given that the supermarket chains has 38 local outlets.

It recently opened one such shop in the Nakumatt Westgate Shopping Mall. Successful candidates will receive further training from Revlon, which has partnered with the retailer in the cosmetics bar venture.

“The consultants will receive advanced training from various institutions including the Revlon Beauty School in South Africa,” said Nakumatt.

Besides Nakumatt Westgate, there are plans to establish such cosmetic bars at Nakumatt Junction, Nakumatt Nyali, and Nakumatt Galleria. Nakumatt says it will open more such bars in other outlets progressively and expects to have one in every branch by end of the year.

Those who would like to work with Nakumatt as beauty advisors in the cosmetic bars need to be qualified beauticians from a recognised institution of higher learning. They can drop their curriculum vitae at any of Nakumatt’s outlets across the country. The branches will then forward their applications to Nakumatt Headquarters in Nairobi.

Exclusive deal

The cosmetic bars will provide a sales and consumer education platform on global cosmetic brands.

Revlon, a colour cosmetics, hair care and fragrance products maker, has signed an exclusive deal with Nakumatt making the retailer Revlon’s local authorised stockist. The unique deal makes Nakumatt the only supermarket chain in Africa, allowed to sell the full range of Revlon products.

The new cosmetic bars will be staffed by qualified and experienced beauty advisors trained by Revlon South Africa Beauty School.

Departmental store

“They are designed to create an open-selling environment for premium cosmetics,” said Ms Sonali Shah Nakumatt Holdings Group Lifestyle Category Manager when the company launched the beauty shop at westgate.

“The cosmetic bars will also provide a sales platform that encourages customers to interact with the beauty advisors as well as the products.”

She added that this would enhance shopping experience and was part of a Nakumatt strategy to advance its retail solutions beyond conventional supermarket services to a departmental store level.
