Atwoli proud of son following appointment as Dean of Medical College at Aga Khan University

COTU Secretary-General Francis Atwoli on Friday heaped praises on his son Prof Lukoye Atwoli who was appointed the Dean of Aga Khan University’s Medical College (EA).

Through a tweet, Atwoli said his son had made the family proud and wished him God’s blessings in his new assignment.

“Congratulations my son, Prof Lukoye Atwoli, on your appointment as Dean of Medical college at The Aga Khan University (EA).

“As a family we are very proud of you. May the Almighty God continue guiding you, growing you in knowledge & wisdom and protect you,” he tweeted.

Prof Atwoli is an expert in psychiatry with extensive leadership, teaching and academic research experience.

He leads and participates in mental health research locally and globally and is a member of the WHO World Mental Health Surveys Consortium, which is the leading collaborative project in psychiatric epidemiology globally.

Prof Atwoli previously served as the Dean of the Moi University School of Medicine and has supervised a number of masters’ candidates to completion.

In recent weeks he has opined on how the country is handling Coronavirus, calling for targeted testing in health care facilities due to the risks involved.

Aga Khan University expressed confidence in his abilities, saying it believes he will take the institution’s Medical College to the next level.

“Given his experience and research credentials, and through his gentle but firm leadership, he brings a steady pair of hands to help the Medical College, East Africa navigate the challenges ahead,” wrote the university.

He is set to start his tenure on August 1, 2020.
