Just hours after her ouster from the Parliamentary Service
Commission (PSC), Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa sought solace in one of activist Martin
Luther King Jr’s popular quotes.
As if to suggest that she had been oppressed, the legislator
shared the quote on her social media pages, a veiled message to her ‘oppressors’.
“Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it
must be demanded by the oppressed.”
The post attracted a number of comments, some telling her
that her actions led to her ouster.
Frank Mtetezi: Every action has its consequences and it is
what it is. You can’t serve two masters.
Lynet Omwaka: You cannot enjoy being a member of a committee
and still fight the appointing authority.
Nomad Son: Just because you are stripped of your lucrative
position you now realise that there is need to fight oppression?
Others, however, sided with her, telling the lawmaker not to
bow to pressure.
Cleophas Mwanzias: True, never give in to their pressure.
Stay put. Keep your head high.
Jairus Koileken: Right Honorable Aisha Jumwa… A woman of
power
Erastus Ngure: Agreed. The journey to freedom is not for the
faint-hearted.
Jumwa will now be replaced by her Likoni Member of
Parliament Mishi Mboko.
Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa also faced the axe after being
removed from the Minority Deputy Whip position and replaced by the Ford Kenya
Secretary-General Eseli Simiyu.
According to the Minority Whip Junet Mohammed, the changes
have been approved unanimously by the parliamentary group with an attendance of
118 members out of 135 with representation from all the parties under NASA
coalition.
“Hon Aisha Jumwa has been de-whipped from member committee,
member’s service committee and the parliamentary service committee,” said
NASA’s Deputy Whip.
