They could have handled him better — Passaris opines on Sonko’s arrest

Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris on Saturday opined on the dramatic arrest of Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.

While engaging netizens, Passaris stated that police should have handled the situation in a more respectful way.

She added that Sonko is the governor and is yet to be found guilty.

“He is the Governor of our County and he has not been found guilty yet. We need to find a way to handle office bearers without compromising the case with human rights violations.

“Why not issue summons to appear in court where charges will be read out?” she asked.

Makueni County Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jr also weighed in on the matter saying the drama surrounding Sonko’s arrest has only served to make him a hero.

“The mishandling of and dramatic airlifting of Govenor Sonko & front page spread in all newspapers has not served any purpose other than make him a hero!

“The court day will be a scene from Hollywood,” said Mutula.

Sonko was arrested in Voi on Friday in a dramatic incident that involved several police officers.

At some point there was an altercation after the governor appeared to utter words that rubbed an officer the wrong way.

On Saturday, the National Police Service accused Sonko of ‘being abusive, unruly and violent in an attempt to resist hence obstructing police officers from the lawful execution of their duties.’
