Royal Media Services reacts to Maribe’s bail application

Royal Media Services (RMS) has requested the court to release Jacque Maribe on bail, vouching for her character.

Through a press statement, the Group Managing Director Wachira Waruru stated that Maribe would definitely adhere to bail conditions due to her previous record at work.

“Having engaged her for the last six years and assessing her performance, we hereby vouch for her character and recommend for her admission to bail,” read the statement in part.

Waruru further added that the journalist had been discharging her duties effectively prior to the Monica Kimani murder case, making reference to her recent promotion to a prime-time anchor.

Maribe and her co-accused Joseph Irungu were in court on Wednesday for bail hearing but will remain in custody until next week Tuesday when the ruling will be made.

The prosecution had argued that releasing Maribe on bail would intimidate witnesses due to her status as a ‘high person in society’.

Justice James Wakiaga, however, could not see the relationship between Maribe’s profession and intimidating witnesses and asked the prosecutor to explain in detail.

The journalist is currently locked up at Langata Women’s Prison while Jowie is at the Industrial Area Remand Prison.

RMS further confirmed that Maribe is still an employee of the media company and had taken leave to attend to personal matters.
