It is Sonko who is spoiling for me - Peter Kenneth slams senator, Governor Kidero

Is Peter Kenneth a spoiler? – How Kidero could gain from his resistance

  • Nairobi gubernatorial aspirant Peter Kenneth has moved fast to defend himself after being labelled a ‘spoiler.’
  • Peter Kenneth, an independent candidate refused to step down and support Jubilee’s Sonko after President Uhuru Kenyatta asked him to do it.

“Sonko who is spoiling for me…”

These were Nairobi gubernatorial aspirant Peter Kenneth’s words during an interview on a local TV station last night after he was interrogated – his tussle with Senator Mike Sonko being the issue.

Kenneth openly refused an open offer from President Uhuru Kenyatta to step down and support Sonko and in return, get a cabinet position.

He stepped into the limelight in 2013, vying for the presidency but lost to a number of candidates, with Uhuru Kenyatta emerging the winner. He managed to garner 72,786 votes at that time, going quiet for sometime before declaring his interest for Nairobi governorship early this year.

Peter Kenneth again suffered defeat in the Jubilee party nominations, losing to Sonko, in what he describes are a flawed nomination process. He even accused the incumbent governor, Evans Kidero of getting people to vote for his competitor – citing reasons why he lost.

He immediately switched to become an independent candidate, holding his campaigns in Nairobi’s wards.

During the interview, he stated that he is not spoiling votes for anyone and wants to lead Nairobi as a person who knows all the people’s problems. He also blasted the incumbent governor and senator, saying that they had failed during their first term.

“He should allow the people of Nairobi to vote for the candidate they would wish to…” were Peter Kenneth’s words to President Uhuru Kenyatta.

According to the former Gatanga MP, he never spoiled anything for anyone in 2013 and is not spoiling anything for the senator. His close competitor Miko Sonko, from an ethnic point of view, is the one spoiling for him – he said.
