Oppression and exploitation of innocent young Kenyans working abroad

The number of Kenyans seeking employment overseas especially in the Middle East has astronomically risen in recent years. In fact, the government’s proposal to export labour to Middle East is laudable.

However, it has not been a bed roses there; our media is awash with cases of torture, rape, corporal punishment, murder and other crimes against humanity perpetrated on desperate Kenyans especially in Saudi Arabia by their employers.

Hundreds of thousands of young Kenyans have been hoodwinked by briefcase companies in the name of brisk and lucrative employment abroad only to turn to modern-day slavery. In a nutshell, the government must rise to the occasion and reverse this oppression and exploitation of innocent young Kenyans.

There are many grunts from Kenyan trapped in Middle East after their travel document being confiscated by their so-called employers. The need to do feasibility studies before exporting labour from Kenya to Middle East cannot be over emphasised.
