Reasons Why Dp William Ruto is Slowly losing Ground in the Rift Valley

<!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> </xml><xml> Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE </xml><xml> </xml>It’s a region that was full of enthusiasm when one of their sons of the soil ascended to the 2nd top most seat in the land. With mouthwatering promises and pledges the team had promised during campaigns, development expectations were highly anticipated in the region. Days passed, weeks twirled into months and four years down the line, the region still believing in their son’s prowess just maintained calm and hoped against hopes that the ‘goodies’ are still on the way.

Soon, the ‘dust’ of unemployment, poor remunerations, zero developments and insecurity cases rose above the greater heights of the Rift escarpments! Instead of coming down with the honey’s pot and sharing it with the region, the son of the soil maintained his static pose on top of the tree and continued ingesting the delicacy alone. There was total silence in the rift.

Questions slowly began rising up and those who were brave enough to speak up against Ruto’s sudden change of behavior and exclusion of the region in terms of developments were met with scolding faces and stern warnings of expulsion from the above. (Isaac Rutto, Johana Ng’eno, Keter and the rest).

In a move to counter this rebellion, the twist suddenly took a political inclination and the electorates were made to believe that Isaac, Gideon, Keter and the rest were just taking advantage of the circumstances facing the DP at the Netherlands based court ICC. Many were convinced to believe that the ‘barking’ especially by Isaac Rutto was just a move to position himself as the next Rift kingpin incase events at the Hague turn against the DP.

As an elder brother who was supposed to hear and settle disputes between him and his younger brothers at all costs, Ruto instead choose to turn a deaf hear on them having in mind that his 2022 presidential ambitions largely relies on the harmony that first exists at home before moving out. The waiting became prolonged for the populace and the complaints hit the skies. Just as they were beginning to lose hope in their son, Kericho by-elections came in handy for the DP to cool the situation.

Landing in pop and style probably for the ‘first’ time since 2013 campaigns Ruto sought forgiveness from the region and promised that their government together with ‘Arap Kenyatta’ (son of Jomo) was going to settle all the pledges it has promised the region. ‘Ingosamis muryaa kopo koot nebo’ loosely translated in Kalenjin, Even if the rat is ghastly, it belongs to its home, the community just listened to him and believed in him once again.

Tens of earth moving and construction machines made its way to Kericho ready for the much anticipated ‘developments’ in the region. Despite “tumetenga” phrase being the talk of the day in Kericho by-elections, they still managed to vote in the Jubilee aspirant.

Suddenly after the by-elections, the so called construction machines disappeared into the thin air! Roads remained the same as before! That was supposedly the last time the DP was seen in the region commencing hefty projects! Soon, Ruto started crisscrossing the perceived opposition strongholds taking with him developments and unveiling major projects while his own backyard still remains with a wide open peak like a bird’s nestling waiting for its mother to come back with food to suppress its hunger. This has created a notion in the region that being outside the government is even far much better than being inside na bado tunameza mate.

I am in no way trying to reprimand our honorable DP for taking developments to other regions of the country, in fact it’s a big scoreboard for the Jubilee government and his future political ambitions but the problem is that even after all this, his own home ground largely remains the same 4 years down the line.

Charity starts at home they say! To add water on the already slippery ground, the recent sky rocketing cases of corruption involving high profile individuals within the Jubilee government is making it hard for the electorates to believe that their hopes for better lives in jubilee government will live to see the light of the day. We love William and not in any way trying to castigate him! This should just act as a wakeup call for him lest he wakes up to a rude shock in 2017! There is a rift in the Valley!!
