Collymore's millions a victory for transparency

Collymore’s millions have been the talk of the day and so many people are wondering how and why  he should be allowed to earn that much in a 3rd world country. Sh9 million would translate into approximately a hundred thousand dollars with exchange rates of last year, which in itself is a pretty large amount of salary even in first world countries such as America.

The buzz has been that if he takes home 9 million then he must be earning around 12 million assuming he pays taxes or that his salary is more than the presidents of Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania combined and how much he would be earning in a day or an hour compared to the common person, no doubt his daily salary is more than what many honest hard working Kenyans earn in a whole year. But all in all this is a victory for transparency and fight against corruption for rich Kenyans are afraid of coming out and declaring their wealth because they are afraid of public scrutiny.

Today we have seen the Safaricom CEO declare his monthly salary and net worth. Not many other CEOs or business owners would top his salary. This should encourage them to come and declare theirs without fear of public backlash.

Bob Collymore’s declaration shows that he is confident in his earnings and wealth. Yes it might be a little extravagant salary for a 3rd world country, or even a rich country like America, but he has the guts to come out and declare it, because he earns it and believes he deserves it and does not steal it.

Others who earn much less are afraid to declare theirs because they know what they earned they did not deserve, and they are stealing whatever else they can land their hands on and have fat bank accounts and multi million dollar mansions and hotels dotted though out the city and in other countries which their salaries cannot account for.
