Fresh donkey meat reaches city tables, suspects confess

It is likely that fresh donkey meat gets to your lunch table.

Men involved in the sale have confirmed donkey meat is widely distributed in the city.

Once the meat is slaughtered in Naivasha, it finds ready market in Nairobi, two donkey butchers arrested during the week have said.

They said most of the meat is transported to Burma market and sold to Nairobians.

The two were caught as they were slaughtering six donkeys at a farm in Naivasha.

They were beaten up by a mob before the police rescued them.

Joseph Mundolol, the donkey owner, said the two used a small boy to drive the donkeys into the bushes.

“They paid the child Sh200 to drive the donkeys into the bushes, but we managed to catch them as they started their business,” he said.

They had knives, ropes, aprons soaked in blood and gunny bags, which were taken to Kongoni police station after their arrest.

 “They are assisting us with investigations into these cases which have left many baffled,” Kongoni police boss, Paul Korir said.
