Planned factory in final stages

County government has announced it is in the final stages of acquiring 60 acres of land from Nyagweta Forest in South Mugirango constituency for the planned construction of the sugarcane factory.

The Executive for Trade Moses Onderi said survey work has been conducted after successful negotiation between the county and the Kenya Forest Service.

He disclosed the county is awaiting clearance from the National Environmental Management Authority.

Mr Onderi who spoke during the burial ceremony of the late George Ratumo in South Mugirango, assured residents county government is pushing for the degazettement of the the land.

Responding to claims by a local politician Joshua Ondura that the county has no capacity to create the factory, Onderi dismissed the allegations and said the project is set to kick off soon.

Mr Ondura challenged Governor James Ongwae to come open over the factory arguing that his administration lack resources for the initiative.

"Let the governor come open over the project. Let him tell people of South Mugirango whether his government has the capacity to establish the factory or he is looking for an investor," said Ondura.
