Parents protest schools’ use of motorbikes

Kirinyaga,Kenya: Parents in Kirinyaga County have expressed concern over transportation of children to music festival venues using hired boda bodas.

The Standard has established that each boda boda carries four or five children per trip.

Contacted, the County Director of Education Joseph Nyaga it was unacceptable for teachers to transport the children to the competitions using motorcycles.

“Am shocked that some teachers could behave so irresponsibly,” Nyaga said, adding that the schools had been allocated funds for extra-curriculum activities.

He said disciplinary action will be taken against teachers found culpable and urged traffic police to be on the loot out for boda boda operators found transporting the children.
