#GardenCityCriterium: Cyclers light up streets of Nairobi in fun-filled event [Photos]

Men's Elite racers going down the Business Park stretch at the Garden City Criterium [GAMEYETU]

Sunday, November 17 saw Kenya’s best cyclers take on the well-marked Nairobi City tarmac to showcase their prowess in the annual #GardenCityCriterium.

The event, held at the foot of Nairobi’s Garden City Business Park saw more than 200 cyclers turn up, painting the city with multi-colored cycling attire representing the different teams.

There was a total of five races including Men’s Elite category, Men’s Amateur (category2), Recreational Men (category 3), Ladies Elite race and the Children’s fun lap.

Men’s Elite category:

Kenyan Riders Bike Aid’s Charles Kagimu stole all the headlines after winning the Men’s elite race in 12:56:02, a good twenty-six seconds ahead of Bike Aid’s Suleiman Kangangi and Salim Kipkemboi.

Dutchman Niels van der Pijl and Kenyan Riders duo Geoffrey Langat and Josphat Githambo completed the top six.

Men’s Amateur (category 2)

Sossi Simbaz Lubega Abdul Noor was the winner of a closely contested men’s amateur race, crossing the finish line in 12:00:43.

Kevin Munyao from Baiskeli Adventures and RDX Riders’ Alex Maina completed the podium finishes in 12:00:43:200 and 12:00:43:250 respectively.

Recreational Men (category 3)

Stig Njiru was the champion in the men’s recreational race after completing the race in an impressive 11:19:29. Barnabas Lukorito and Joseph Lukorito finished second and third in 11:19:30 and 11:20:10 respectively.

Ladies Elite race

The ladies came out to play at the Garden City Criterium [GAMEYETU]

In the Ladies Elite race, team Frankies’ Nancy Akinyi peddled her way to the top and crossed the finish line in 10:43:23, with Naivasha Cycling’s Joyce Nyauri coming a close second in 10:44:04.

Mercy Fwande from Liv Cycling Kenya came third in 10:45:11.

Kids’ fun lap

The kids’ fun lap set the ball rolling for a delightful day, with Shalom Kimeu, Arnold Njuguna, Liam Kang’ethe, Timon Hawi and Ian Mburu showing fellow youngsters how it’s done.
