Driver and turnboy charged with transporting untaxed goods

A driver and a turnboy have been charged with transporting goods with counterfeit excise stamps.

Francis Mbarire Hungi and Benson Mwangi Mburu appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Benard Ochoi.

The charges read that on September 21 along Bomet-Narok highway, being the driver and turn boy of vehicle registration number KDB 234 E, they were found transporting goods affixed with counterfeit excise stamps.

They were transporting 16,560 bottles of 250ml Vennice Vodka that could have led to loss of Sh1,099,170 excise duty and Sh331,200 value added tax.

They denied the charge and were released on a bond of Sh500,000 with one surety each or alternatively pay cash bail of Sh300,000 each.

Their case will be mentioned on October 13.
