A police officer, who has been participating in the ongoing disarmament in Tiaty, Baringo County has been shot dead bringing the number of officers killed since the Kapedo Saturday attack to four.

Baringo County Commissioner Peter Okwanyo, yesterday said the officer was killed by bandits in Ameyan area near the volatile Kapedo border.

Mr Okwanyo said the Administration Police officer was part of a group of officers who were ambushed by armed  militia on Wednesday during the day. He said a shoot-out ensued between the officers and the suspected bandits.

“After the fight, we realised one of our officers was missing. Unfortunately, we found his body yesterday in the bush but his set of police uniforms, rifle and unknown number of rounds of ammunition were missing,” he said.

His body is lying at the Rift Valley Provincial General Hospital in Nakuru. The operation led by Baringo County Police Commander Hassan Barua has received criticism from Pokot residents.
