Teachers warned over sex with students

Teachers and villagers engaging in sexual relationships with students have been put on notice. Emurua Dikirr MP, Johana Ngeno and Trans Mara East District Education Officer, Anthony Baraza issued a stern warning to such errant teachers.

Ngeno said it was disturbing to witness teachers who are supposed to protect the welfare of students turning against them. The legislator also warned security officers who were allegedly covering up such incidents after getting compromised by the perpetrators.

Speaking during an education forum at Emurua Dikirr, Ngeno called upon the provincial administration not to negotiate with any one found to have engaged in sexual activities with the minors.

“I have received reports of culprits of sexual offences trying to negotiate with some security officers so that they are not taken to court for prosecution and I would like to state categorically that such officers should also be held responsible because that is tantamount to committing such a similar offence,” said Ngeno.

 On his part Baraza said some teachers in the area have so far been interdicted in connection with such heinous acts and that his office would continue to crack the whip on such errant teachers. “The idea of teachers engaging in sexual relationships with students was not only a professional misconduct but also a criminal offence which is punishable by law,” said Baraza.

He said it was frustrating that sometimes culprits were seeking protection from well connected members of the society who approach the parents of the victims with an aim of compromising them in order to drop the case.
