Four pupils died on the spot when they were hit by a car in Burnt Forest area along Eldoret Nakuru Highway on Monday afternoon.

Another pupil who was in the company of the four was injured and is in a critical condition.

He was rushed to Moi Referral & Teaching Hospital. Police confirmed the arrest of the driver saloon car.

The accident happened at around 1pm, when the pupils of Kapkoi Primary School were walking home during a lunch break.

Confirming the incident OCPD Langas Nicholas Maina said the driver of the car swerved after he lost control hitting the pupils who were walking by the roadside.

“We have been informed the driver swerved to avoid an oncoming vehicle but we are still investigating the incident. The driver of the car has been arrested and is at Tarakwa Police station to help us with investigations,” Maina said.

The pupils were between seven and 11. The accident occurred on the first day of reopening of schools this year.
