Ghost delegates

It’s now apparent that the much-awaited football elections may count for nothing if the problems in some branches regarding clubs’ register are not harmonised.

A lawyer has been put on alert to take legal action if ‘genuine’ officials do not replace those listed as Wananyuki FC delegates.

In another case, officials of a club have sworn an affidavit saying their club, which is among those listed as genuine ones awaiting the election, in fact ceased to exist two years ago.

JO Magolo and Co Advocates have instructions from Wananyuki Football and Social Club officials to take legal action if the listed officials (Twahir Omar Mohamed, Yunus Hamed Mohamed Said and Asha Mohamed Said) are allowed to vote.

Instead they want chairman Abdulhalim Said and assistant secretary Salim Hamed to be cleared to cast the ballot.

This is said in a letter from the advocates, copied to Interim Independent Electoral Commission (IIEC) and Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission (KACC).

The problems about clubs and delegates are mainly at the Coast Province.

Bad Boys founder Mohamed Ahmed swore an affidavit that the club ceased to exist two years ago, although it is among those listed as genuine clubs from Malindi.

Officials from Malindi sub-branch sent a letter to IIEC confirming genuine clubs but it has been substituted with some that don’t exist.

Over 40 clubs earlier listed have been left out in subsequent lists.

They said Alaskan, Brazil, Kishada, Power Rangers and Malindi United don’t exist yet they have been included in the list.

They attached league fixtures and standings and sample of cards.

Kaloleni sub-branch secretary William Mutta Tsaka says delegates from Super Power FC, Mission Boys and Sham Wanderers are all fake.

He says two officials of Uwanja FC are genuine, one is a fake, VSS has all its officials questionable, Kaliangome has two genuine and one is fake, same as Rhino FC, Red Revengers and Usintate FC.

Boca Juniors also sent a letter dated September 19 complaining about voters register, saying the ones sent earlier were fake.

Football Kenya chairman slot has attracted seven candidates, Hussein Mohammed, Football Kenya boss Mohammed Hatimy, Sam Nyamweya, Twaha Mbarak, Elizabeth Shako, Fred Awich and Ambrose Rachier.

Meanwhile, Coast Province, which has three candidates eying the top seat, might hold the sway vote to determine which camp will triumph in the national football elections.

Hatimy and former KFF senior vice chairman Twaha Mbarak, both from Mombasa, have been cleared to vie for the chairmanship.

Another candidate, KFF NEC member and veteran sports administrator Mohammed Omar, also from Mombasa, will be going for the senior vice chairman slot under Nyamweya’s camp.

As a result, candidates set to face Hatimy and Mbarak for the top seat have embarked on a vote hunting mission at the Coast in an effort to get vantage position hinged on the region’s votes.
