County staff move to court to block sacking

Drama continues to unfold in Embu County Government. Forty-two employees have moved to court in a bid to bar the county administration from sacking them.

The employees who had been hired last November moved to court under certificate of urgency to have it revoke termination of their services, which was done on Monday. The applicants told Industrial Court Judge Monicah Mbaru that the circumstances under which they were kicked out of work are suspicious, citing that they were to hand over their tools of work a day after the letter was issued.

Through their counsel Kithinji Marete, the applicants told the court they had not been found guilty of any offence nor were they given a notice indicating that the County Government was terminating their services.

Contrary to the allegation by the county administration, the counsel told the court they had followed due employment procedures before they were hired.

The court heard that they had been granted appointment letters after passing interviews for their respective working stations.

Justice Mbaru certified the matter as urgent.
