Ringera wants Khalwale to pay for suing him

The embattled Kenya Anti Corruption Commission (Kacc) Director Justice Aaron Ringera wants an MP to pay for suing him.

Ringera told the High Court in Nairobi on Friday that he should be paid for the costs he incurred in preparing a defence in the case withdrawn by Ikolomani MP, Dr Bonny Khalwale.

Through his lawyer Muthomi Thiankolu, Ringera said he is at liberty to write to the High Court registrar, so that he can be paid the money.

It was alleged that Ringera, Dr Smokin Wanjala and Mrs Fatuma Sichale incurred costs by engaging lawyers to represent them in court.

He argued that whatever happened in the National Assembly would have had no consequence on KhalwaleÕs case.

He told Lady Justice Kalpan Rawal that Khalwale erred in suing him because the Anti Corruption and Economic Crimes Act does not allow that to happen.

She ordered the MP to pay Ringera costs at the lowest scale.

This was after Khalwale told the court that he should not pay Ringera because the case had already been overtaken by events.

In the withdrawn case, the MP was seeking orders barring KaccÕs Advisory Board from determining and settling RingeraÕs terms and conditions of service.
