Police in Rachuonyo East are investigating the death of a 26-year-old woman whose body was found in a well at Kachieng’ Opanga in Ramba.

The body of Marceline Awino Ogutu was discovered on Tuesday by a boy who was passing by the well, which is 30 feet deep.

The boy first spotted the deceased’s slippers abandoned by the edge of the well. When he looked further, he saw the body.

According to assistant chief Nelly Atata, the incident occurred two days after the woman was discharged from Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital in Kisumu.

Nelly said the woman went to the well secretly without informing her husband, who was in the house at the time.

It is suspected that the woman might have jumped into the well.

Police officers have since retrieved the body and moved it to Okita Nursing Home Mortuary.

“Police have begun investigating the matter, and we urge residents to cooperate with us,” Atata said.
