Kisii town will join Kisumu City in reorganisation plans with more than 500 traders set to be evicted from the Central Business District.

In a seven-day notice issued by Kisii Municipality manager, Nahashon Ongeri on March 11, all traders and other hawkers selling their wares on drainage lines and on walkways will be required to relocate by Thursday.

The notice was issued to cart owners, welders, motor vehicles, timber yard owners and business operators to vacate drainage, verandahs, walkways and other public reserves and areas in Kisii Municipality.

“Failure to comply with the notice will attract a huge penalty. All business owners and operators are required to cooperate with the said directive,” the notice stated.

Yesterday, Ongeri told The Standard that most traders and hawkers have been operating with impunity.

“We are not looking back, we reached at the decision because we want to ensure all those who pay licences to operate shops within the CBD have a humble business environment,” he said.

Kisii is the second most populous town in Nyanza region after Kisumu.
