Court removes Kisumu Speaker Anne Adul again

KISUMU: Speaker Anne Adul has been barred, albeit temporarily, from running her office.

A three judge bench comprising Justices William Ouko, David Maraga and Sankale Ole Kantai gave the temporary orders stopping the decision of an Industrial court that reinstated Adul as the speaker.

This follows two applications filed by both Adul and the county assembly which were later consolidated so as to be heard together due to time limits.

In a notice of motion filed by the assembly, the ward reps claimed Adul's reinstatement is like imposing her on them which may result in a political stand off that will greatly hamper development in the county.

Industrial Court Judge Hellen Wasilwa reinstated Adul after declaring her impeachment null and void saying it was done in violation of the law.

"Pending hearing and determination of this case, we stay the decree and order of the industrial court," said Justice Magara.

Adul's lawyer Ken Okong'o had opposed the issuance of the stay orders arguing that interests of justice will be best served if Adul continued being the speaker until the case is heard and determined.

Hearing of the case is scheduled for March 3.
