Councillors replaced by MCA’s demand gratuity

HOMA BAY COUNTY: Former councillors from Homa Bay and Migori Counties want the Government to grant them gratuity to enable them meet the escalating cost of living.

Addressing the press after their meeting at Homa Bay Farmers Training Centre, the former local authority leaders said they had waited for the Government to speak about their send-off packages but it had maintained silence on the matter.

Through their organization dubbed Homa Bay- Migori Councillors' Welfare, the former elected leaders accused the Government of neglecting them despite their efforts of making significant contributions to economic growth of this country.

The Chairman of the organization Akech Chieng' expressed concern that many councillors' lives were in deplorable state due to their inability to meet the current cost of living.

“Life has become unbearable for many leaders who served as civic leaders, to an extent that they do not look like people who made any contributions to the economic growth of this country. We are appealing to the Government to recognized the services we offered for citizens of this country by giving us gratuity to salvage us from the economic hardship we are undergoing," Mr Chieng' said.
