Judiciary clarifies late Dorothy Muoma was never its employee

The Judiciary has dismissed viral claims that the late Dorothy Muoma was ever employed as a magistrate within its ranks.

In a statement, Judiciary spokesperson Paul Ndemo addressed reports circulating on social media following Muoma’s death on February 3, 2026.

“The Judiciary has taken note of a post on social media regarding one Ms Dorothy Muoma, who is said to have died on February 3, 2026. The post claims that Ms Muoma was once a Magistrate at Kitale Law Courts. We would like to confirm that Ms Muoma was never an employee of the Judiciary at any point in her career. We nonetheless wish to condole with the family at her passing away,” the statement read.

Online discussions about Muoma’s reported mental health struggles had gained traction in recent weeks, with many posts linking her condition to what was described as a former role in the Judiciary.

The institution has since termed those claims false.

Muoma, 56, was laid to rest amid reports of prolonged financial and health difficulties.

According to accounts shared online, her challenges began after she lost her job several years ago.

Born and raised in Nairobi, Muoma was the second-born in a family of eleven children, according to her eulogy seen by TNX Africa.

The tribute, however, gives a detailed account of her supposed law career.

She is said to have pursued legal studies abroad before returning to Kenya and later enrolling at the Kenya School of Law.

According to the eulogy, she was admitted as an Advocate of the High Court in 2003.

The tribute further states that she worked in private practice and later served under a government legal programme before leaving her position in 2014.

In 2016, she also established a private law firm, which was later discontinued.

In January 2026, Muoma was admitted to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital with severe sepsis in her left leg and received blood transfusions.

Reports indicated she initially showed signs of improvement.

However, on February 3, she allegedly complained of nausea and began vomiting.

Despite efforts by doctors to resuscitate her, she became unresponsive and was pronounced dead at 8pm.
