Newly refurbished Nairobi-Nanyuki railway line will pave way for cheaper and safer fuel, says the government.

Petroleum Principal Secretary Andrew Kamau said on Wednesday that rail is a cheaper way to transport fuel than road because it is faster and safer.

“We are excited that with funds that came from Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC), Kenya Railways has been able to execute this project within a few months,” he said in Nanyuki during a tour of the line.

The Sh1.8 billion used to support rehabilitation of the metre-gauge railway was part of KPC’s remittances to Treasury in special dividends.
