Mauritius to host Africa Aviation convention

Mauritius, the Indian Ocean Island off the East African Coast will host the 2019 African Airlines Association (AFRAA)  Annual General Assembly (AGA) and  summit in its 51st edition.

AFRAA Secretary General  Mr Abdérahmane Berthé  announced that the summit initially scheduled  to take place in Yaounde, Cameroun  after last year’s successful 50th edition in Rabat, Morocco  will be held at InterContinental Mauritius Resort, Balaclava Fort from November 10 -12.

Mr Berthé expressed AFRAA’s gratitude to Air Mauritius that alongside the host Government stepped in after the change from Yaoundé became evident.

 ”We salute their commitment  to the development of African aviation industry only months  after hosting the 8th Aviation Stakeholders Convention in May that brought together more than 300 delegates from Africa and across the globe to stimulate dialogue, build sustainable networks and create more competitive environment,”  remarked Mr Berthé in a communique released from the association’s headquarters  in Nairobi.

“This is again a testament to their legendary hospitality and commitment to the development of the African aviation industry,” added Mr Berthé

Air Mauritius Chief Executive Officer (CEO)Mr Somas Appavou said his country was thankful for the role Air Mauritius had been called upon to ,play within the continental aviation body .

Noted Mr Appavou: “A Small Island Developing State, being part of a broader partnership such as AFRAA is key for us to overcome the hurdles stemming from our insular status. We are looking forward to contribute in making AFRAA’s next AGM a success.”
