Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has commended the International Civil Aviation Organisation and the European Union for picking Kenya for a pilot solar project.

KAA Managing Director Johnny Andersen (pictured) said the selection of Moi International Airport, Mombasa, for the project was indication of confidence in KAA facilities.

“The fact that this is the first project of its kind in East Africa shows the confidence in Kenya Airports Authority and Kenya as a whole. This project will make a big difference on how we consume energy in this airport,” he said.

Mr Andersen said the project will produce 500 kilowatts daily with the airport consumption being 800 kilowatts. The additional 300 megawatts will be sourced from the national grid.
