NAIROBI, KENYA: Former Nakumatt chief marketing officer Dixon Andrew has joined Uchumi Supermakets as the new chief operating officer.

The move comes a month after Dixon left rival Nakumatt where he served as chief marketing officer. Andrew joins Uchumi at a time when it is transitioning through a series of financial challenges which have led to stock outs in its several branches across the country as well as late payments of staff salaries.

Dixon, a British retail veteran with over 30-years’ experience has been credited with developing some of Tesco leading initiatives over the last 20 years.

Analysts hope he will help Uchumi-once a strong force in retail market-get back to its feet.

Dixon Andrew however left Nakumatt at a time when the retail chain is facing financial problems which has led to closure of a number of branches across the country.
