Mombasa hotel puts up new conference facility

KENYA: Mombasa-based Travellers Beach Hotel & Club has unveiled a new conference facility. This is in a bid to tap into conference tourism.

In a global ranking released in 2014 by the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), an umbrella body for the conference and conventions sector, Kenya was placed at position 55 in the world.

The new facility, according to Hotel General Manager Freddie Kiuru has capacity to hold 500 participants. “We can host any kind of meeting from national, regional and international with this kind of facility we have put up," Kiuru said.

Kiuru said they want to ensure leisure and business travellers get the best that the hotel has to offer. “We have taken nothing to chance as we aspire to be among the best in terms of service delivery, offering meeting, incentives, conference and exhibitions (MICE) alongside lodging, dining and entertainment,” he said.

Already the new facility, Kiuru said has hosted a meeting of Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) that brought together 450 delegates. “We have firm bookings for this facility and this has considerably helped us in our hotel occupancies," Kiuru said. He said the hotel is ready to participate in hotel classification when the exercise finally starts in the coast region early next year.
