Sifuna told to quit ODM and join Gachagua

[Standard, Kanyiri Wahito] Makadara MP George Aladwa has told Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna to leave ODM if he is dissatisfied with the party. Aladwa claimed that Sifuna was working with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to vie for the Nairobi governor seat. "We know he is fronted by impeached Deputy President Gachagua in the Nairobi gubernatorial race," said Aladwa. He accused Sifuna of being disrespectful of other leaders. "I want to warn Sifuna that pride comes before fall. To be popular, you don't have to shout from the rooftops, calling people names," Aladwa said. He was reacting to Sifuna's remarks on Citizen TV on Thursday that even with Raila Odinga's endorsement, President William Ruto would still lose re-election. "Even if ODM supports Ruto, he will still lose. William Ruto will lose that election even with Raila's support," said Sifuna. The ODM spokesman maintained that he would not vote for Ruto in the 2027 General Election even if the party decides to support his re-election. "There are messages too important to be left to Aladwa. In ODM, everyone has the right to speak their mind. Aladwa has one vote, and Sifuna has one vote. Let him cast his vote for Ruto, I will not," he said. Yesterday, Aladwa called a press conference to hit back at Sifuna, accusing him of trying to rock the party from within. "He should stop deceiving people that he is still the Secretary-General, he has already joined Gachagua's team," Aladwa claimed. Aladwa accused Sifuna of rebelling against the party's position, saying that working with the government was a decision of party leader Raila and all members must toe the line. "We have our members holding government positions, and we need to support them," he said. In a response on X, Sifuna dismissed claims that he had left the party. "Time does fly when you are having fun. It's seven years to the day today! It's very easy to be the SG of ODM. You just need to follow the blueprint left by Gerald Otieno Kajwang: Loyalty. Fidelity. Faithfulness. Easy as ABC," he wrote. Sifuna insisted that ODM would only work with parties that share its ideological position. "ODM will only enter into alliances with political parties that are like minded; those that are pro-people," he said.
