Ballistic examination of the firearm owned by a suspect accused of killing NHIF employee Lilian Waithera has revealed that he did not fire a shot using the said-gun.

The tests conducted on Monday, February 20 showed that the bullet used in Waithera's killing did not match that of the suspect's rifle.

This finding essentially sends the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) back to the drawing board in efforts to solve Waithera's death puzzle.

A new team of detectives from the Homicide Unit have now taken up the probe, which was initially being conducted by their colleagues from the Nairobi Central Division.

The new team now hopes to establish who actually fired the shot that killed Waithera on February 13, 2023 on Kaunda Street, Nairobi.

The sole suspect in the killing was arrested on Monday evening.

Postmortem conducted on Waithera's body on February 15 indicated that a bullet had lodged in her lung.
