There will be no Christmas break for all security officers, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i has said.

The CS said the decision is a presidential directive by President Uhuru Kenyatta in his capacity as the chairman of the National Security Council.

He was speaking during the installation of senior principal chief Roika ole Shira at Kekurro location, Kajiado.

The order affects police and members of the national government administration officers who include regional, county, deputy county, assistant county commissioners, chiefs and assistant chiefs.

All security agents are ordered to be on high alert over the festive season, bearing in mind political upheavals in neighbouring countries.

Matiang'i said residents are urged to exercise caution.
