Bunge la Mwananchi 'president' charged with robbery

A man who claimed to be the new President of Bunge La Mwananchi was yesterday charged with two counts of robbery with violence.

Calvin Okoth Otieno denied the two charges when he appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Martha Nanzushi.

The first charge read that on August 27, this year, at about 1100 hours at City Hall Way in Nairobi, jointly with others not before court, robbed Charles Ooko Mc`Olonde of a mobile phone valued at Sh6,500 and Sh4,150 cash.

He was also accused of having assaulted the victim during the robbery.

The second count facing Otieno was that on the same day and time at City Hall Way, jointly with others not before court, he robbed Damon Osawa of two mobile phones valued at Sh49,000.

He was released on a bond of Sh600 000 or alternatively pay a cash bail of Sh300,000.

The case will be mentioned in two weeks’ time.
