Two shot dead in botched robbery in Lucky Summer, Nairobi

Two suspected thugs were Tuesday evening shot dead for allegedly terrorising residents of Lucky Summer in Nairobi.

The two were said to have been in a gang of three that attacked locals near Rehmart Supermarket and robbed them of their valuables.

Police said the suspects were taking advantage of ongoing rains in the city to attack pedestrians and rob them.

A team of officers who were nearby heard the distress calls and rushed to the scene and killed the two while a third suspect escaped on foot. One pistol with three live rounds and three mobile phones were recovered.

The area has been experiencing a climb in crime incidents in the past months.

Last week, two men were shot dead in a shop by gunmen who were out on a robbery mission. One of the victims identified as Richard Muema was shot seven times in the stomach, chest and legs and is still admitted in ICU while the second one identified as Arbanus Mutua had bullet wounds in the neck and left hand.

The gang escaped without stealing anything from the shop. Last Friday, two police officers were shot dead and robbed their guns in an ambush in Obama area, Njiru.

No arrest has been made so far over the killing of Police Constables Joel Chesire and Albert Abeere. They were ambushed while on duty at Mwengenye area by unknown gunmen.

Two firearms- an AK47 rifle and a Jericho pistol, a police pocket phone and other assorted items were stolen.
