Disputed land belongs to two Nairobi schools, developers told

Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero

The county administration has dismissed private developers claiming land at Lavington and Nairobi Primary schools.

This follows a directive by Governor Evans Kidero Tuesday to the Lands docket to take action on land grabbers. Both parcels of land have been claimed by private developers.

County Chief Officer of Lands Stephen Mwangi Tuesday said those claiming the land were doing so in futility because the parcels were surveyed and designated to the institutions years back.

Speaking in Nairobi, Mr Mwangi said he had requested those claiming ownership to present relevant title deeds and/or affiliate documents and that his office was yet to receive any.

“School land in Nairobi does not belong to anyone. People need to understand that we are dealing with land that is already surveyed,” he said.

He refuted claims that there were developers in the capital putting up buildings on land acquired from the county government.

“We cannot ignore an issue when there is one because some people were allocated land by the defunct Nairobi City Council but the current government has not allocated any land since its formation in 2013,” said Mwangi.

He also said every parcel in the county would have been surveyed by July 2016, saying Eastleigh was the only area that had not undergone the exercise.

“The county government has been asking for the review of titles that were irregularly allocated. We are waiting for anyone who has papers on the land to present them to us, but no one has come to us,” he said.

Mwangi said developers had invaded the land on December 22 but police had taken charge of the land to ensure no one made entry.

“People started excavating land at Nairobi Primary School, but it was not much. We, however, managed to react and ensure it is no longer going on,” he said.

Mwangi assured residents that the county would ensure there was a review of all land previously allocated by the county government to avoid further confusion.
