Cummins Power Generation Company has recognised Car and General with the prestigious Outstanding High Horse Power Sales Performance Award for 2009.

The firm recorded good growth for Cummins Power Generation high horse power generators sales in the East African region.

The Cummins award was presented in London to Mr B S Balaji, the Engineering General Manager of Car and General.

Distributor

Car and General is the appointed distributor of Cummins generators in Kenya, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Eritrea, Rwanda, Seychelles, Tanzania and Uganda.

These are in high demand in the region because of their fuel economy, low emission and noise levels and consistent power density.

Balaji, said, "Car and General was recognised for not only penetrating the high horsepower generator market in the region but for also exceeding the total of 100 mega watts worth of generator sales."

The firm’s business relationship with Cummins started in 2003.

"We have realised that servicing their diesel engines and generators had to meet high technical standards. This required a major investment in the construction of a dedicated repair facility in Nairobi and the employment and training of top level engineers and mechanics, " he said.

Cummins engines are also being freighted to Dubai and Johannesburg from countries in the East Africa to be overhauled.

He said, however, this work could be carried out to the standards set by Cummins by the firm’s local service centre with significant savings.
