One of Kenya’s most popular golf courses, the nine-hole Kenya Railway Golf Club, will this weekend host the Zain BlackBerry Golf Challenge.

According to Zain’s Tom Indimuli, more than 130 golfers, including 41 guests from Zain, have been drawn to tackle the often challenging golf course situated in the heart of Nairobi city.

"Over the years, Railway has always been one of our most popular venues in the Zain BlackBerry Golf Challenge," Indimuli said. "The reception we get from members of Railway and warmth of the 19th hole, the club house, is great!"

This will be the fourth event on the Zain BlackBerry Golf Challenge that kicked off after a one-year break. The Vet Lab Sports Club hosted the first event earlier in the year, Thika hosted the second event and the Eldoret Golf Club was the venue of the third event.

"This season of the Zain Blackberry Golf Challenge will take us to 12 different golf clubs around the country and we are considering adding one or two more events to this year’s calendar due to the positive response we have received," Indimuli added.

"From Railway Club, we will be visiting the home of golf, Muthaiga Golf Club on the July 10 and to the Nyanza Club on August 21."

The Zain BlackBerry Golf Challenge will move to Royal Nairobi Golf Club on September 11 and to the Limuru Country Club on October 2. Njoro Country Club, Nakuru Golf Club, Naivasha and Nyahuru will get a chance to host the event on November 13, while Nyali hosts it on December 11.

Dates for a corporate golf day at the Karen Country Club and for an event in Mumias will be announced later.

The Zain BlackBerry Golf Challenge is known for excellent prizes, mainly BlackBerry and Nokia phones, making its events crowd pullers.

Meanwhile, Dasani Golf Gala tees off this weekend at the Njoro Country Club and will run until October 22 when the Grand Finale is held at the Muthaiga Golf Club.

Four winners will win a fully paid golf trip to participate in the Gary Player Invitational in November at the Fancourt in George, South Africa.

Participation in the Gala has taken the now popular Team Format. According to the Coca Cola Country Manager for Kenya, Peter Njonjo, Teams of four golfers each will be registered and play as a unit.
